“Syrian identity is not lost, but wounded—and what we need is justice to restore trust.”
One of the most powerful reflections from the dialogue session organized by SYCAC in the city of Hama.
In a city that carries a heavy legacy of pain and resilience, Syrian women and men from Hama and its countryside—representing diverse religious, social, and geographic backgrounds—came together in an open and safe dialogue space to address difficult, yet necessary, questions.
Together, we discussed:
- The meaning of Syrian identity today after years of displacement and division
- What unites Syrians, and what threatens social peace
- The relationship between citizens and institutions, particularly trust and accountability
- The real role of youth and women in peacebuilding
- How inclusive and just governance can serve as an entry point to stability
What distinguished this session was the balanced participation of women and men, the diversity of voices from urban and rural areas and across different community groups, and a candid dialogue that expressed pain—yet also hope.
Together, toward an inclusive identity and a peace rooted in justice and dignity.
