In Damascus, the city that witnessed the birth of a new Syria and carries layered memories of fear, pain, and hope, SYCAC opened a safe space for an open and honest civil dialogue.
The session brought together Syrian women and men from diverse religious, social, and geographic backgrounds to raise long-awaited questions about Syrian identity, social peace, the boundaries of freedom of expression, and the strained relationship between citizens and institutions.
Within this space, conversations addressed topics that are rarely spoken aloud, including fear, trust, and hate speech, while also highlighting the capacity of youth, women, and local actors to repair what has been fractured and to build a peace that begins with people and ultimately returns to them.
This dialogue is part of a series led by SYCAC, grounded in the belief that Damascus, like Syria as a whole, cannot be reclaimed through force, but through dialogue and a renewed social contract based on justice, dignity, and safety.
