As part of a series of awareness sessions implemented in several villages across rural Afrin, the Environment and Peace team held a session with a group of displaced and resident women in Haj Khalil village under the LANN+ program. The discussion focused on the vital connection between food, health, and the environment.
During the session, participants discussed how to prepare simple and diverse meals using local ingredients and the importance of dietary diversity in protecting families from malnutrition—especially children and the elderly.
They also talked about household hygiene and the importance of washing hands before and after cooking, and after touching animals, to maintain food safety and family health.
💬 One participant said:
"Today I discovered that clean, diverse meals can be made from simple ingredients from our own land and homes."
These sessions affirm that empowerment begins with women’s awareness of their essential role in building healthier families and cleaner environments.
