SYCAC facilitated a meeting that brought together Mr. Mohammed Sheikh Rashid, Deputy Head of the Afrin Region, along with the Director of the Relations Office and the Director of the Political Administration in Afrin, with representatives from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, as part of the Swiss delegation’s visit to the region.
The meeting included an extensive discussion session that addressed several key topics, most notably community needs, transitional justice, and social cohesion, in addition to discussing the issue of returnees and the challenges of return. Participants exchanged views on current challenges, ways to strengthen local stability, and support for priority community needs.
This visit comes within the framework of international efforts to assess the reality of local governance and community work in northern Syria, and to enhance cooperation with civil society actors and local institutions in a way that contributes to promoting social cohesion and supporting sustainable development efforts.
