SYCAC participated, represented by Ms. Walaa Alloush, Syria Programs Manager, as a speaker in a panel discussion organized by Search for Common Ground, with support from the European Union, to launch the EU Roadmap for Engagement with Syrian Civil Society.
In her intervention, drawing on SYCAC’s field experience, Ms. Alloush emphasized the importance of long-term programming over short-term interventions that may not achieve sustainable impact. She highlighted the need to strengthen community accountability mechanisms as an entry point for building trust with local communities, maximizing the effectiveness of interventions, and fostering community ownership.
She also underscored the pivotal role of women and youth in peacebuilding and social cohesion, recognizing them as key actors in shaping the future of their communities.
Ms. Alloush affirmed that any roadmap will have limited impact unless it meaningfully strengthens partnerships with local actors and responds to their actual priorities on the ground.
