Statement of Condemnation on the Terrorist Attack Targeting Mar Elias Church – Damascus

SYCAC strongly condemns the horrific terrorist bombing that targeted Mar Elias Church in Damascus on the morning of Sunday, 22 June 2025, during Sunday Mass. The attack claimed the lives of numerous innocent civilians in a heinous act that has deeply shaken our shared humanity.

This brutal assault on a house of worship, during a moment of prayer, is yet another stark reminder that terrorism recognizes no religion or sect, and seeks to undermine social peace and the unity of the Syrian people. It is a flagrant violation of the sanctity of religious spaces and the dignity of human life.

SYCAC extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, to the Christian community, and to all Syrians. We stress the urgent need for accountability and justice for those responsible for this criminal act.

At SYCAC, and in alignment with our unwavering commitment to fostering cohesion and peace, we believe that the true response to such blind violence lies in the unity of Syrians, the rejection of hate, and the collective pursuit of a cohesive, safe society that embraces diversity and upholds human dignity and rights.

We affirm that safeguarding places of worship and ensuring freedom of belief are integral to building the future Syria we all aspire to a future for all, grounded in justice, citizenship, and peaceful coexistence.
