As part of the Echoes of Peace Project, SYCAC Organization conducted a Content Creators Training in Tartous, bringing together a group of local content creators committed to fostering positive change through digital media.
In an era when virtually everyone has access to a smartphone, creating digital content has become commonplace. Producing responsible content, however content that is sensitive to community dynamics and promotes social cohesion rather than division requires genuine awareness, critical thinking, and well-developed skills.
In Tartous, where people share a diverse social fabric shaped by a long history of coexistence, these skills are particularly important.
The training equipped local content creators with practical tools to engage responsibly in the digital space, identify and respond to misleading content, and develop alternative local narratives rooted in their communities and reflective of their lived realities. Participants went beyond learning theory by creating original digital content during the final session, which was evaluated against standardized criteria including accuracy, conflict sensitivity, ethical standards, and publication readiness.
At SYCAC Organization, we believe that countering hate speech does not begin with censorship or silencing voices. It begins by empowering informed local voices to enrich the digital space with content that is more humane, responsible, and representative of their communities. This is the change that is beginning to take shape in Tartous.
